Acre has been engaged by a sustainable building design consultancy to recruit a knowledgeable, confident graduate engineer into their growing business.

My client works across a broad range of markets including education, residential, cultural, and commercial. It has gained an enviable reputation for delivering innovative and fresh designs which has led to an increased demand for their services - and consequently the creation of this new post.

With a broad service offering the post-holder will be involved in a variety of duties. The main responsibilities include:

  • Developing low energy building design strategies in conjunction with architects and structural engineers
  • Providing advice on sustainability, BREEAM and building physics
  • Building services engineering including heating, lighting, power and water systems design with a strong emphasis on reducing energy consumption and CO2 emissions
  • Advising clients on integrating renewable energy technologies into their buildings
  • Working with contractors on site to ensure that design concepts are correctly implemented and constructed
  • Using latest dynamic simulation software as part of energy, CO2, thermal and daylight analysis

As well as offering the successful candidate the opportunity to join an innovative team of sustainability experts with a wealth of experience, you will also benefit from a “hands on” learning approach and tuition from experienced team members who will take an active interest in your development.

You will be encouraged to become a Chartered Engineer or environmentalist through an accredited institution such as CIBSE, IMechE, IET, the Energy Institute or IEMA, and it’s expected that you will be running your own projects under the supervision of an experienced engineer within a short period of time.

Key skills and capabilities include:

  • Previous sustainable building design experience highly desirable, but not essential
  • Technically minded graduate in preferably, but not exclusively, mechanical or electrical engineering or physics
  • Genuine interest in the built environment and sustainability
  • Strong communicator who is comfortable attending client and stakeholder meetings

  • Provide technical, analytical and report writing delivery in own discipline (likely to be one of energy management, carbon management or renewable technologies) on sustainability contracts

  • To support the development of more junior members of staff through mentoring and on-the-job guidance.

Requirements:

  • Graduate calibre, preferably with masters level qualification in relevant discipline
  • Relevant experience from either a industry, academic or consulting background
  • Ideal candidate will be a BEng, MEng, or even CEng qualified engineer (or equivalent), with a career history within energy management or as a senior level sustainability consultant.
  • Membership of the Institute of Energy Management, accreditation as a CIBSE Low Carbon Consultant, BREEAM qualification and/or CSH would all be an advantage.
  • Competence with MS Project, IES or CAD an advantage but not essential
  • Experienced Project Manager used to managing complex project teams
  • Strong track record in business development and sales
  • Good understanding of the sustainability agenda
  • Ideally with or working towards accreditation by a suitable body

Our client, a leading UK carbon consultancy, is looking for an Energy Consultant to join their busy and growing team. They are looking for a talented individual who can provide energy reduction strategies for a portfolio of clients, including FTSE 250 firms and UK brand names.

As an Energy Consultant you will be responsible for carrying out energy audits, as well as providing guidance and advice on carbon reductions strategies, policies, and energy efficiency strategies including renewables.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Undertaking site surveys and preparing technical reports regarding energy efficiency and carbon reduction strategies
  • Analysing utility consumption data to identify areas of concern and possible solutions
  • Advising on energy efficiency solutions; both technical and behavioural based projects
