London with 40% UK travel | £250-400 per day

Acre is working with a national property company to recruit an Interim Safety, Health and Environment Manager (SHE) on an urgent basis, to be based in London with up to 40% national travel.

The successful post holder will manage three direct employees, as well as external consultants and various stakeholders, and will be mainly be responsible for:

  • Developing and maintaining suitable Safety, Health and Environmental (SHE) policies, procedures and management arrangements
  • Supporting the development and ongoing management of corporate and business unit risk registers in order to reduce areas of substantial risk
  • Develop an accreditation programme to promote SHE compliance
  • Developing a corporate strategy for the ‘continued improvement’ of SHE standards across all areas of the estate

Ideally, the successful candidate will be NEBOSH qualified (or equivalent) and will have previously reported at senior management level in a SHE team. Proven experience of ISO 14001 and 18001 development will be beneficial, along with a proven track record of project management within the commercial/industrial sector - ideally in construction, energy, or civil engineering . Job objectives

  • To develop and maintain suitable Safety, Health and Environmental (SHE) policies, procedures and management arrangements for ensuring the safety of people and the health of their environment

  • NEBOSH Diploma qualification or equivalent, with Construction certificate

You will work within the SQE department and will be expected to embed health and safety legislation and best practice across the business. The role could potentially sit within any of the contract sites, with primary focus of the role to cover the East of England. Reporting to the Quality Manager, the purpose of the role is the auditing of multi-disciplinary activities across the contract to ensure quality, safety, environmental and contract conformance as well as ensuring continuous improvement.

The role will involve the following

  • Carrying out internal independent risk based delivery, process, project, safety and environmental audits. Some of these audits may be joint in conjunction with the customer.
  • Conducting additional audits as identified by the Quality Manager
  • Carrying out additional follow up activities from defects identified during the scheduled audit programme
  • Maintaining effective relationships with customer and other appropriate representatives
  • Ensure that all non conformances are closed out in an effective and timely manner.
  • Provide advice and support to operations staff, process and functional managers in closing out of non conformances, process usage and conformance to best practice
  • Undertake ownership of specific quality related activities as directed by management.

The successful individual will require:

  • Ideally ISO 9001 Lead Auditor qualification, however, applications would be considered from applicants who can demonstrate relevant experience and would be willing to work towards gaining this qualification.
  • Understanding of sustainability (ISO 4001) and Health and Safety (BS OHSAS 18001), formal audit qualifications in these areas would be an advantage.
  • A relevant mechanical, electrical or building qualification but more importantly be able to demonstrate a good working knowledge in one or more of these fields.
  • Health & Safety, Environmental and Quality qualifications would also be beneficial however a good working knowledge and understanding of industry standard safe working practices is essential.

India | £ -Day rate based on experience

Acre has been engaged by a global extractives company to source three Health and Safety Managers to work on mining and smelting sites to deliver the implementation and roll out a number of H&S projects and enhancements. The positions are based in India within a 200km range of Udaipur and will be for a minimum duration of a year.

Reporting to the Health and Safety Senior Manager, you will work on projects aimed at identifying and mitigating safety risks. This will include auditing equipment, processes and people and mentoring line managers on site.

Your primary responsibilities will include

  • Developing a check list of on-site risks
  • Ensuring safety systems are technically robust
  • Ensure transport to and from site (e.g. lorries) adhere to stipulated safety standards
  • Mentoring staff (particularly line-managers) on site in relation to safety issues and providing safety demonstrations where necessary
  • Ensuring that sites are being comprehensively audited to company standards

The successful candidates will have extensive experience of improving site Health and Safety performance. International H&S experience is ideal. In particular you will have:

  • Extensive H&S experience ideally within extractives, oil & gas, heavy industry or similar
  • Experience with Excel and a good head for statistics
  • The ability to influence and lead a range of staff on safety related issues
  • A practical and hands on approach to Health and Safety

As a Senior Health and Safety professional you will bring out the best in others and will have a track record of delivering tangible improvements across multiple sites.   • Advanced knowledge of Excel and a good head for statistics
